There is also a marked forest trail from the river Lågen up to the "Fakkelmannen (Olympic Torch Man)" which is a feature carved out of the forest on the side of the valley opposite Hafjell. The landmark was made before the Olympics in 1994 in Lillehammer and is very visible from the alpine hills in Hafjell.
The torchman started as an idea project in the design section of LOOC. The sketch that LOOC had drawn was welcomed by councilor Svein Rønning and forestry chief Carl Olav Holen. The Fakkelmann was designed by Jan Reyer Elders at GIH-Skog. Using a digital terrain model, the outer boundaries of the boom were constructed.
The upper surface is visible from large areas but the dimensions change gradually depending on the scene.
