Visit Maihaugen in winter
When you are in Lillehammer on a winter's day, we recommend that you take the time to visit Maihaugen. Here you can experience exciting exhibitions indoors, but not least fantastic surroundings for a walk in cultural landscapes. Remember to wear proper winter shoes and preferably crampons because it can be slippery sections.
There is usually a separate program on Sundays and during the winter holiday weeks there are many exciting activities for young and old at Maihaugen. Here you can have real and good experiences together.
Toboggan runs
Maihaugen has many nice slopes and slopes that are perfect for sledding. On the slopes from the Housing Estate down to the City in the open-air museum, it is fun to test old-fashioned wooden rompers, which Maihaugen has on loan.
Forestry work with horses
In the forest at the top of the open-air museum, felling is now taking place in the forest. The work is done with horses as in the past. The farm guys are happy to welcome you and tell you about the forest work in the past.
You can also walk the nice forest path and learn more about how important the forest has been and is to us. In the shelter you can light a fire. (NB! Elsewhere in the open-air museum, open fires are prohibited.)
Open doors to historic houses
Even in winter, the doors to several of the historic houses at Maihaugen are open. Here you can peek into everything from the medieval simple living room to the 1950s house with modern kitchen and washing machine.
Exciting exhibitions
Included in the entrance ticket are also Maihaugen's great exhibitions. Slowly our country became our own is an exciting journey through Norway's history.
Museum shop
Every day during the museum's opening hours, you can shop in the Maihaug shop.
