Winter walking in Lillehammer and Hafjell

Winter walking is ideal for those who want an active week in a magnificent winter landscape but are not tempted by our cross-country skiing tracks or alpine slopes in Hafjell. Winter roads in and around Lillehammer and Hafjell are pure relaxation. They offer romantic views and historic insight, fresh winter air and a lot of exercise.

Admire winter landscape

You need good general fitness, but at each centre the emphasis is on relatively gentle walking at a relaxed pace, with plenty of time to admire the scenery. You can walk mostly on paths and forest tracks.

Many are cleared or rolled but after new snowfall it can take some time to prepare them and you have to be ready to walk on untracked snow - a little more energetic, but a wonderful experience. Sometimes the surface underfoot can be a little icy and we recommend you bring inexpensive foot grippers or purchase them at sport shops in Hafjell or Lillehammer.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing in Lillehammer area is recommended when you want to get away from the ski slopes and into the untouched nature. There are great opportunities to discover animal tracks in the snow from elk and grouse. Your trip take you out into the pristine winter landscape, with stunning views, and the total silence. With snowshoes you may not climb the highest peaks in the region, but you may receive the greatest outdoor experiences in Hafjell.
