Peder Balke-center

In a listed building from the 18th century, gorgeously situated on a hillside facing the Mjøsa lake, you will find our gallery. Inside is the ballroom which Peder Balke decorated with 12 wallpaintings in 1834. In addition to the wall paintings, in summer we host temporary exhibitions featuring the work of contemporary artists.

Here, in this house at the official Billerud farm at Kapp in the Østre Toten municipality, Peder Balke (1804 - 1887) painted a series of 12 murals in 1834. This is the main attraction and the core of all our business. In addition, alternate exhibitions appear in the gallery during the summer. From this year, we also have a new basic exhibition about Peder Balke in place. Out on the lawn is a monument of Peder Balke, "Hiking" by Henning Olav Espedal, and looks towards the audience who will go in and look at his murals.

Peders Fristelser is the center’s own lunch restaurant. Here you can eat lunch, have a coffee with delicious cakes or order catering.
