Maihaugen's traditional Christmas market is a very popular highlight that is held annually on the first weekend of Advent and offers a real Christmas atmosphere in unique surroundings.

Experience Christmas-decorated houses, from medieval fireplaces to modern cottage environments, and explore over 120 stalls filled with high-quality handicraft products, good food and other exciting Christmas items. Here you will find the perfect, unique Christmas gifts.

Activities for the whole family include Christmas workshop, gingerbread baking, sleigh rides, nailing, spinning, Christmas card photography, barn visits and more. The highlights of the year are creative workshops with Lillehammer Art Museum, cuddles with rabbits from the Children's Farm and live folk music at Bjørnstad performed by talented musicians.

The stalls are open on Saturday from 11:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00. We recommend that you experience the atmosphere during the twilight hour. When the lanterns are lit, the place transforms into a magical experience!

From Lillehammer bus station to Maihaugen it is a short trip of approx. 1.3 kilometers.
Travel options:
On foot (approx. 20-25 min): This is the most common way. Walk up Jernbanegata, turn right into Anders Sandvigs gate, and follow this all the way up to the entrance. There is a slight climb all the way.
Bus (approx. 5 min): Several local buses stop right at Maihaugen (the stop is called Maihaugen). You can use lines 140, 141, or 142. Buses depart frequently from the platforms right outside the bus station.
Car/Taxi (approx. 4 min): Follow the signs to Nordseter/Sjusjøen from the city center, and Maihaugen is on your right. There are good parking opportunities for a fee at the museum.
