FIS Alpine Junior World Championships started 6th of March and ended 13th of March 2015 in Hafjell. Hafjell (NOR) was appointed as Organiser of the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships 2015. This event was also designed to serve as a “test event” for the 2016 Youth Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer.

Hafjell has a long tradition as organizer of international alpine events. Hafjell was completed for the Olympic games in 1994 and the first World Cup was held here in 1991. Some of the slopes that were used during the games in 1994 will also be used during the Alpine Junior World Championship, but improvements have been done.

Hafjell has hosted the World Cup finals in 1996 and in 2003, and the World Cup for women in 2006. They have also hosted a number of Norwegian Championship in all disciplines.The organizers in Hafjell will also take advantage of Kvitfjell, which is located a kilometer further north. The same weekend World Cup Downhill and Super-G will be held in Kvitfjell. Kvitfjell will also be the host for Super-G men during the Junior World Championship.

The annual FIS Alpine World Junior Championships provide a unique opportunity for the best 16-20 year-olds of the skiing world to compete together. The FIS Junior World Championships are important competitions in the development of future World Cup contenders, and World Cup skiers are usually found on the official entry lists.

During the Youth Olympic games in 2016, Hafjell was the host for alpine diciplines.
