On November 3rd and 4th, 2017, the best Timbersports athletes from 23 countries will meet in Håkon's Hall to crown the world champion. There were 8000 spectators at the two-day, international event.

For the 2017 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS SERIES world championship, Lillehammer welcomed athletes from all over Europe, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada and even a team from the South Sea island of Samoa. They competed at the Olympic Stadium from 1994 in three axe disciplines and three saw disciplines.

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS SERIES

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS SERIES consists of six branches, three with an axe and three with a saw. The athletes must in turn manage Springboard, Stihl Stock Saw, Standing Block Chop, Single Buck, Underhand Chop and Hot Saw. At the center of these technically demanding disciplines are the athletes and their tools, as well as of course the material wood. In the Hot Saw discipline, for example, athletes work with an extremely powerful, almost 30 kg heavy and trimmed competition chainsaw. The goal is to saw 3 pre-measured wooden slices from a log as fast as possible. The big challenge is to master the power of the 60 hp chainsaw.

Under STIHL TIMBERSPORTS, axes, handsaws and chainsaws are used with the utmost precision and skill. Sønsteby further describes the sport as a great challenge, even for professionals who work with chainsaws on a daily basis. The sport not only attracts thousands of spectators to each competition, but also millions of TV viewers around the world on Eurosport, among other things.

STIHL Timbersports was in Lillehammer in 2012 and 2017.
