Hovelsrud farm

Hovelsrud farm at Helgøya island with its fantastic view over lake Mjøsa, is guaranteed to captivate. The first to welcome you is the impressive main building from 1840, and you are then enticed into the garden at the back where you get a genuine feel of the olden days when the more sophisticated, affluent farmers were inspired by the grandeur in Europe and attempted to recreate this splendour at home.

Over the past few years, a landscaped garden exactly as it was over 150 years ago has been created – and it is the only one of its kind. These efforts have not gone unnoticed, and Hovelsrud has been awarded EU’s Prize for Cultural Heritage.
