Ringebu Old Vicarage from 1743 offers a unique cultural experience in scenic surroundings, just a stone's throw away from the historic Ringebu Stave Church from the 1200s. Here you will find a protected yard consisting of the main building, two storehouses, a boys' room and an outbuilding. The vicarage, which carries the story of its time as a vicarage until 1991, now gives visitors an unforgettable insight into rich cultural heritage and art.
In the Stave Church Exhibition at the vicarage, you can learn about the history of the stave churches and see objects from archaeological excavations at Ringebu Stave Church. A highlight is also the permanent collection of works by Jakob Weidemann, one of Norway's most renowned artists. The exhibition presents his art from the 1940s onwards.
The vicarage is known for its summer exhibitions of both Norwegian and local artists from June to September. Here you can enjoy a coffee while experiencing the art and the timeless atmosphere.
Outside the main building is the beautiful vicarage garden, which stretches over 7-8 acres on the valley side just above the stave church. In the last ten years, the garden has been renewed and now offers hardy roses, historic perennials, a mountain garden with both old and new plant types, a collection of herbs and a newly planted berry garden. The highlight of the summer is the Finnish discovery roses, a sight that really must be experienced at St. Hans. Guided tours for groups can be booked for an even deeper experience of the place.
